Angiography begins with the introduction of a hollow tube, or shealth, into a vein in the groin or arm. Another tube, called a catheter, is insterted through the sheath and guided to the carotid arteries via the assistance of a type of xray imaging. A dye is inserted into the carotid arteries through the catheter and the xray takes photographs to visualize any blockage present.
