Women between the ages of 21 and 29 generally should visit a gynecologist once a year, and then every other year between the ages of 30-64. During an annual exam, a Pap smear is performed to screen for cervical cancer during a pelvic exam. Although many women are nervous about these exams, they are quick and generally painless. A breast exam, sometimes in conjunction with an ultrasound, screens for breast tissue irregularities. Other regular health assessments, such as blood and urine testing for hormone levels and STIs, and possibly a stool test, may also be performed.
